MANCHESTER CITY
The upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture between Manchester City and Bayern Munich will mark the seventh time these two teams have faced each other in European competition. The previous six encounters have seen both teams win three matches each. Interestingly, all of these matches were in the UCL.
This match will also see Pep Guardiola, current manager of Man City, face his former side, Bayern Munich. Guardiola coached Bayern for three seasons between June 2013 and June 2016, winning the Bundesliga every season. However, he was unable to win the UEFA Champions League with Bayern, despite winning the competition twice with his previous team, Barcelona.
On the other hand, Thomas Tuchel, who recently took charge of Bayern following the sacking of Julian Nagelsmann, will come up against Guardiola for the 11th time as a manager. Tuchel managed to outfox Guardiola in the 2021 UCL final when his Chelsea side defeated Man City 1-0. Tuchel also knocked Guardiola’s Man City out of the FA Cup in the semi-final stage, winning 1-0 at Wembley Stadium. However, Guardiola got some revenge in the 2021-22 Premier League season with two 1-0 wins across the home and away fixtures
Manchester City and Bayern Munich’s upcoming match promises to be an exciting clash between two of Europe’s top teams. City will enter the match as the form team, with an impressive run of eight consecutive wins in all competitions and an unbeaten run of 12 games since early February.
On the other hand, Bayern Munich has experienced some mixed results lately, winning three games, losing two, and drawing none in their last five matches. They suffered defeats to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and Freiburg in the DFB Pokal last midweek, which may have knocked their confidence heading into this game.
Unfortunately for Bayern, they will be without striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who is sidelined with a knee complaint, and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who remains a long-term absentee. Meanwhile, City has no injury concerns and will be at full strength for the match.
Both teams have been impressive in the Champions League this season, remaining unbeaten so far. It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top in this crucial encounter.
In the other match of the night, Benfica will take on Inter Milan, and they will be hoping to make a statement in the Champions League. Both teams have experienced mixed results in their domestic leagues, but the Champions League presents an opportunity for them to showcase their potential on the European stage. It should be an exciting night of football for fans around the world.
