Chapter 1: The Boy Who Lived The first chapter of the book introduces us to Harry Potter, an orphan who lives with his cruel and neglectful relatives, the Dursleys. We learn that on the night of Harry’s parents’ murder, a powerful wizard named Voldemort attempted to kill Harry too, but for some reason, he was unable to do so. This has earned Harry the nickname “The Boy Who Lived.”

Chapter 2: The Vanishing Glass In this chapter, we learn more about Harry’s unhappy life with the Dursleys. They treat him terribly, making him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs and forcing him to do all the chores. Harry has a terrible birthday, but things take a mysterious turn when strange things begin to happen around him.

Chapter 3: The Letters from No One Harry starts receiving mysterious letters addressed to him, but the Dursleys refuse to let him read them. The letters keep arriving, even when the family goes on a trip to escape them. Eventually, the family is forced to take refuge in a hut on a small island to avoid the letters.

Chapter 4: The Keeper of the Keys On Harry’s eleventh birthday, a giant named Hagrid shows up at the hut on the island to deliver a letter to Harry. Hagrid tells Harry that he is a wizard and that he has been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hagrid also reveals that Harry’s parents were killed by Voldemort, who was not killed in the attack.

Chapter 5: Diagon Alley Harry and Hagrid set off to Diagon Alley, where Harry learns about the wizarding world and buys his school supplies. They visit Gringotts bank, where Harry discovers that his parents left him a large inheritance. They also meet Ollivander, a wandmaker, who helps Harry select his first wand.

Chapter 6: The Journey from Platform Nine and Three-Quarters Harry boards the Hogwarts Express, a magical train that takes students to Hogwarts. He meets Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who become his best friends. Harry and Ron also meet Draco Malfoy, a student who dislikes them immediately.

Chapter 7: The Sorting Hat When they arrive at Hogwarts, the first-year students are sorted into one of four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville Longbottom are all sorted into Gryffindor.

Chapter 8: The Potions Master Harry begins his classes at Hogwarts, and we meet some of the teachers, including Professor Snape, the Potions Master. Harry and Snape do not get along, and Harry suspects that Snape is up to something.

Chapter 9: The Midnight Duel Harry and Ron sneak out of their dormitory one night and run into Malfoy, who challenges them to a midnight duel. They are caught by Professor McGonagall, but she lets them off with a warning.

Chapter 10: Halloween On Halloween, Harry, Ron, and Hermione attend a feast in the Hogwarts Great Hall. After the feast, the three friends explore the castle and stumble upon a mysterious trapdoor. They hear strange noises coming from beneath it.

Chapter 11: Quidditch Harry learns about Quidditch, a popular sport played at Hogwarts. He is chosen to be the Seeker for the Gryffindor team, which means he must catch the Golden Snitch to win a game.
