Dhillon started her career as a model and won the Miss Young India title in 1978. She then went on to represent India in the Miss International contest held in Tokyo, where she was crowned first runner-up.

In 1979, she made her debut in the film industry with the film “Trishul” opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
