Early Life and Education
Andie MacDowell was born Rosalie Anderson MacDowell on April 21, 1958, in Gaffney, South Carolina. Her parents, Pauline “Paula” Johnston and Marion St. Pierre MacDowell, were both music teachers. MacDowell has two sisters, Beverly and Julia, and one brother, Paul.
Growing up, MacDowell was a good student and had a passion for dance. She attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where she studied secondary education. During her college years, MacDowell competed in beauty pageants and was even crowned Miss South Carolina in 1977.
After college, MacDowell moved to New York City to pursue a career in modeling. She signed with Elite Model Management and quickly became one of the most sought-after models of the 1980s.
